The Nassau Chapter offers a number of opportunities to assist the families of member Knights by providing financial assistance to dependent children and grandchildren of in the furthering their Catholic Education.

YOUNG CATHOLIC SCHOLAR INCENTIVE AWARD

The Viet Scholarship provides financial assistance to a member or dependent child of a member in good standing of the Nassau Chapter and affiliated groups for the purpose of furthering his or her post High School Education.

The YOUNG CATHOLIC SCHOLAR INCENTIVE AWARD of $ 2,000.00 will be awarded in June on the basis of a one thousand word themed essay submitted by the applicant to the Nassau Chapter, Knights of Columbus. The Award is for the first year of study. The theme of the essay shall be determined by the Nassau Chapter on an annual basis and deal with a topic relevant to Catholic religious, moral and social teachings.

Judging will be based on religious, moral and social teachings as defined by the Roman Catholic Church.
Recognized grammar and writing standards will be considered.

REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must be a member in good standing or a child or legal ward of a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus or Columbiettes or Ladies Auxiliary, whose council or affiliate is a member of the Nassau Chapter. A Squire or Squirette, whose organization is sponsored by a council of the Nassau Chapter, may also apply. Children of deceased members who were in good standing are also eligible.

An entering freshman of an undergraduate program leading to a bachelor’s degree at a college or university in the United States. Proof of registration will be required.
FILING:

Essays will be submitted to the Nassau Chapter between March 1st and April 30th of each year.

The essay shall be accompanied by the official application containing the name and address of the applicant, name of the school to be attended and verification by the Financial Secretary or applicable officer of the appropriate Knights of Columbus council or affiliate.

2023 ESSAY THEME: “TO FOLLOW MY CATHOLIC FAITH, HOW DO I LIVE MY LIFE DURING COLLEGE AND BEYOND?”

The winning essay will be selected by a committee of three judges selected by the Nassau Chapter, Knights of Columbus, who are versed in Catholic religious, moral and social teachings. The decision of the judges will be final.

The SCHOLAR INCENTIVE AWARD shall be payable in two equal payments:
Payment # 1 A payment shall be sent to the selected SCHOLAR upon presentation of a copy of the official school registration document for the first semester.
Payment # 2 Payment shall be sent to the selected SCHOLAR upon presentation of a copy of the official school registration document for the second semester.
